Before you visit us for a display replacement it is good to check if it has really defected. If you see cracks or lines in the display in most cases this indicates a defect LCD or glass cover. If you have a black display but the mac seems to run, try to connect it to an external display to make sure it is the display and not i.e. the graphics cards causing the problem. If an external display you have an image but not on the MacBook it is most likely a display problem.
Sometimes it can happen that your display goes black just because of a crack in the LCD cable or connector. For the older Macs, these cables can be replaced. For the newer Macs starting from the 12 inch MacBook released in 2015 these cables are glued under the LCD and only the complete LCD assembly can be replaced. The 13 inch MacBook Retina 2015 is prone to have a cracked LCD cable. Also newer Macs from 2016 on seem to have an issue with the display cable that is failing (Flexgate). These, however, cannot be replaced. We will have to swap the complete display unit.
The full display assembly can be replaced very quickly. If we stock the part, in general, it can be done within 1 hour. It includes the metal back cover, LCD and glass front of the display, factory assembled. Please make sure to notify us of the correct color and display size when ordering a display or planning a repair.
If your LCD is cracked and the displays back case is not damaged, we might be able to replace the LCD only saving you money in the process. Due to the complexity of this repair we need about 2-3 working days to finish this. If you are very picky it might be better to go for a full assembly though. It sometimes happens a particle of dust or small tiny damage and the white film inside the display has damage and you might see it. Should this happen we can always offer you a full assembly instead and we keep the damaged one instead. If you want to save money, this is the way to go. Note that for some models like the MacBook 12 inch we do not offer this service. Please check in advance if this service is available for your MacBook model.
